Paris Police Reportedly Detained Man Behind  Bomb Threat At Iran Consulate.

French police, including special forces, secure the area near an Iranian consulate in Paris, where a man was reportedly threatening to blow himself up, April 19, 2024.

A security perimeter was erected by police on Friday in the affluent 16th arrondissement of Paris in response to information that a man was making threats to blow up a suspected explosive belt at an Iranian consulate. The suspect had reportedly been taken into custody, according to French media, but the Paris police would only confirm that an intervention was taking place on the street where the consulate is situated.

According to the news agency Reuters, no explosives were discovered on the individual.

According to police sources cited by the newspaper Le Parisien, an eyewitness saw a guy identify himself at the consulate door and then remove his coat to reveal what seemed to be a handmade bomb belt.

The newspaper cited several eyewitnesses who saw the man place flags on the floor of the consulate. They recounted that he said he wanted to avenge the death of his brother. Police, including SWAT teams, were called to the scene to investigate and urged the public to avoid the area.
