According to the U.S. State Department, more restrictions will be unveiled this month to prevent North Korea and Russia from exchanging weapons and fuel. South Korea is among the nations that would be affected by these penalties.

At a news conference on Thursday, U.S. State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller stated that the country is now working with its allies, which include South Korea, Japan, the European Union, Australia, fresh Zealand, and South Korea, to announce fresh coordinated sanctions designations this month.

Miller declared that the United States will keep enforcing sanctions on anyone who helps to enable the transit of refined petroleum and weapons between North Korea and Russia.

Russia sent more than 165 thousand barrels of refined oil to North Korea in March alone, according to a statement made earlier in the day by John Kirby, the national security spokesperson for the White House. He continued by saying that Russian exports to the North this year have already exceeded the yearly limit set by the UN Security Council (UNSC).

More than 500,000 barrels of refined petroleum products cannot be imported by the North annually due to UNSC sanctions.
