Buildings in Taipei, the capital, were shaken by the earthquake. The weather agency said that the earthquake was 5.5 kilometres (3.4 miles) deep.

Taiwan's eastern Hualien region was also the epicentre of a magnitude-7.4 quake in April 3, which caused landslides around the mountainous region.

Taiwan's weather agency said that a 6.3 magnitude earthquake struck the eastern county of Hualien on Tuesday; no immediate reports of damage were made.

Taipei, the capital, was rocked by the earthquake. According to the weather agency, the earthquake was 5.5 kilometres (3.4 miles) deep.

Following a 7.2 magnitude earthquake that shook Hualien earlier this month, hundreds of aftershocks have battered Taiwan.
